Aquatics Information

At Burlington County Special Services School District it is our priority to have a successful Aquatics program. We are continuing to partner with the YMCA to provide and oversee the lifeguards and safety procedures that are in place. The objective of the Burlington County Special Services Aquatics program is to provide an instructional, therapeutic, and recreational environment. These objectives are differentiated dependent on the student’s needs. All Individualized Education Plan requirements are followed in the Aquatics Program.

Teacher Ms. Alyssa Amodio

Alyssa Amodio graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania of May 2013 where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a dual major in Health Education and Health and Physical Education. While attending East Stroudsburg University she had worked in a swim school, as well as being part of a program called Swim and Gym. Goals of this program included teaching children with special needs about water safety and swim skills. Upon graduating, she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant in a school for children with Autism. Ms. Amodio's past experiences have taught her to work with a variety of children. She believes that all children can learn and instruction should be geared toward their learning style. She understands the importance of teaching to all learning styles, the need to motivate all students and the need for all students to experience success. It is the swim program objective to create activities that teach to the student’s physical, mental and social health as well as creating an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Aquatics Director

Ms. Dawn Willers

She started her career in aquatics a little over 20 years ago when she first became certified as a swim instructor through the American Red Cross. As a child she was deathly afraid of the water. She knew that she wanted to help other children like herself overcome their fears and become confident swimmers. Teaching others to swim has become her passion.

In college at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro she continued her studies in Aquatics and graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a dual concentration in Pool management and Aquatics for Therapy and Rehabilitation. During her time there she took courses in adapted aquatics, water massage, aquatic therapy, lifeguard training and scuba diving.

Ms. Willers has worked at the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties for the past 7 years. In her current role, she is the Aquatics Director at BCSSSD. She is responsible for managing safety at both facilities as well as providing water support to Ms. Amodio as needed. She loves  working at the school and getting to help each student become safer in the water.

When I am not working at the school Ms. Willers enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters.
